The Cedar Creek Racquet Club is
nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains in the quaint town
of Cashiers (spoken “CASH-ers”), North Carolina.
This town has the advantage of being in the mountains
as well as being very near the neighboring states of
Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. Cashiers has
an elevation of 3,600 feet and is the center of a quiet
unspoiled vacation area where there is relief from temperature
extremes, mosquitoes, air and water pollution.
Several cultural and recreational amenities near to
Cashiers are the Biltmore House and Gardens, Western
Carolina University’s new Fine and Performing
Arts Center, Brevard College, golf courses, ski slopes,
thousands of acres of National Forest land, and shopping
and fine dining in Cashiers as well as nearby Highlands,
the highest incorporated town east of the Rockies. Browsing
local Chambers of Commerce websites including Highlands,
Macon County, Cashiers, Jackson County, Brevard, and
Transylvania County can link you to a multitude of area
amenities.
Cedar Creek Racquet Club is located just east of the
center of Cashiers on U.S. 64. The southwest and east
of the site are two well known resort/country clubs:
High Hampton Inn and Country Club, and Fairfield Sapphire
Valley Resort and Country Club. These resort/country
clubs are best known for their challenging and beautiful
golf courses.
This is where Cedar Creek Racquet Club differs. The
overriding theme is to provide a private club for active
families who prefer tennis over golf. Cedar Creek Racquet
Club is the premier tennis destination in Western North
Carolina with finely manicured clay courts partnered
with a full-service pro shop providing tennis apparel
and supplies, game arranging, racquet stringing, and
on-site tennis professional. Cedar Creek also has a
brand new fitness center, hiking trails, racquetball,
fishing, canoeing, swimming, and many other activities.
The club is located on a magnificent 43 acre site which
was part of a large private estate. The beautiful Horsepasture
River bisects the property and empties into Lake Lupton,
which is in direct view of the clubhouse. Throughout
the entire site are uninterrupted views of surrounding
mountains, dense areas of natural vegetation, introduced
apple orchards and grassy field areas. Cedar Creek Woods,
the residential neighbor of the Racquet Club, is contained
within the 150 acres once known as “Sleepy Valley”.
Some of these privately owned “tennis cottages”
are available for weekly or monthly rental.
At Cedar Creek Racquet Club, the developer, A. W. McKee,
has chosen a high set of standards with which he has
been able to utilize a large percentage of existing
amenities. The main house, which was built in the 1930’s
and has a panoramic view of the lake and surrounding
mountains, has now been converted into the clubhouse.
The honeymoon cottage, in view of the clubhouse, has
been determined to be one of the oldest homes in Cashiers.
The building’s interior has been updated and remodeled
to serve as the site for the children’s programs.
Parents and grandparents alike often enjoy after tennis
relaxing and refreshments on the deck while watching
the little ones at play with our camp counselors.
Since its inception, Cedar Creek Racquet Club has strived
to encourage member participation. From the “Mount
Gay Cup Regatta”, where members hold canoe races
over the 4th of July holiday, to themed parties like
“South Pacific”, “Titanic”,
and “Cajun Ho-down”, we try to vary activities
to reach all member interests.
World Tennis Magazine, with the assistance of the USTA
Tennis Facility Awards Jury chose the Cedar Creek Racquet
Club as one of the top twenty facilities in America.
We are continually striving to upgrade our participation
in all aspects of the tennis world. Indeed, Cedar Creek
Racquet Club is considered one of the premier tennis
destinations in Western North Carolina.
